First off...8 hours of crafting time for magical items amounts to 1000gpv of said magic item. So, 2 days to ring of protection at full price of 2000gp.
Crafting mundane non-magical items is way too much time...I just recently decided I wanted to make a crafting pc for nonmagical items...
Masterwork Fullplate is 1650 (i don't know if you use raw material cost?) 16500sp to estimate craft time. Take 10 for 22craft armor. 22x20dc=440sp/16500sp
16500 divided by 440 is 37 weeks.
37 weeks is 9 months in real time. Also I'm not allowed to go on addies while crafting?...
So it takes me 9 months to make an item that costs less than a ring of protection that takes a wizard 2 days to craft...
Can we please do something about the amount of time it takes mundane crafters to make items/gold? Omg...
If it's the raw material cost used for time, it's still 12 weeks.

My guess is that it's materials cost alone. I could be wrong. As for casters having such a big advantage? It's called MAGIC for a reason. It's total hax.

Just saying, it's not like i can profit off of my craft skill for anything large. pc's would have to wait 3 months to get mw fullplate from me when they could just buy it themselves. The onyl real way to profit would be to make small godl amount items in 2-5 weeks. and thats one at a time for like 100 gold piece profit. Thats a half an addy most times. Seems like there should be some kind of tweeking or create a feat liek the magic creation feat "Legendary Artisan" that gives 25% gold cost which gives faster craft time.
I'm mean, i guess later lvl's as you get more craft you make items faster. But at lvl 1 it takes 3 months for MW Fullplate. *Shrugs*

Anyone willing to burn a feat for faster, cheaper, mundane item creation should be able to get it in my oppinon.

I have to agree with Jon on some parts. Crafting is supposed to take some time - that's how it's always been in D&D. You're expected to get Hirelings to aid you in your craft to reduce time. There's also other things you can do in D&D already to lower the time of Crafting - Fast Crafting being one of them.
I've played Smiths before, and it's always been a pain, (Fullplate being one of the biggest pains) but it's realistic. Fullplate isn't something a lot of people have outside of the privileged - knights, nobles, etc. Having a set of plate typically means you're somehow accomplished. I can't justify a set of feats that make Mundane Crafting faster. Realistically, that's the "penalty" for crafting - whereas wizards, though they are able to craft magic items faster, take some pretty severe penalties for crafting permanent items.

Yeah, it's actually gotten fairly easier to find a way to profit form it as well i put up some feat requests.
