Spica

Some think Spica is a reincarnation of her grandparent. A few even wonder if Spica is Betel, magically returned to life and youth. Certainly, comparing Spica to pictures of Betel, there is considerable resemblance at first glance. It's even said that Spica copies many mannerisms that Betel had.

Certainly Spica, 'Spike' to her associates, looks very much like Betel. Spike also admired her ancestor and wanted to be just like her and follow on in her footsteps. She has an interest in nature, astronomy and mathematics, seeing beauty in all things, even numbers themselves. She is also very curious, wanting to know 'why'.

Betel, during her time in the Academy, rising from student to researcher, through to Associate Professorship, Full Professorship, Head of Divination and finally Assistant Director, had done quite a bit of research into metamagic theory but had not yet been able to formulate answers to the Ultimate Questions of Magic, the Multiverse, and Everything. How does magic work? Why is the Cosmos like it is? However, instead of being a theoretical magister, Spica decided that the answers were in the Cosmos itself and could be found by observation and deduction.

Spica had a natural aptitude for magic and was soon accepted into the Academy as a student. Unfortunately her high intelligence and keenness to learn, as well as the lenses she had to wear to see properly, made her the butt of many student jokes and pranks. As a consequence, she spent a lot of her time alone in the library or outside stargazing, while other students were partying. If she could get time on the observatory telescopes, she would take it. One day, she hopes to have an observatory of her own so she can watch the skies and make advances in cosmology.
