Not sure if this has made its rounds or not, so I'd like to raise this as a point of discussion (since there are quite probably reasons both for and against)
Ranger Animal Companion progression at Level -3 (like the paladin's turn undead progression) instead of level/2 that it is currently.
I thought it would be reasonably in line with the whole 'half caster, secondary class feature' thing.

Instead, we are working on a few ranger variants that either let you drop your spells and animal companion and instead gain a more martial standing, or No Spells, no Favored Enemy, No Weapon styles, and instead gain Full Animal Companion progression starting at level 1... Something along those lines. There will be more in time to come on what we decide to do, but we just need to make sure things stay balanced. Giving a full A.C. without really losing anything, we feel, can get OP in some later levels with various feats.
