Welcome to Tel Vinrae! Before getting started, please read this thread!
- We run off of a 30 Point-Buy standard.
- A noble requires a background to be submitted for DM Team Approval. Additionally, nobles gain the Courtier Trait for free. (See Traits for more information).
- If you participated in the Beta Run, any characters you create receive +100gp to their starting gold. Additionally, one of the two characters a player owned during the Beta Run has the chance to create a Legacy Pathway. Please see those rules (here).
- All characters start off with their standard starting GPV as listed in the D&D source materials.
- Certain characters will need Background Approval before legal to play. Classes, Races, or Feats that need special approval will have such noted wherever they are sourced within the forums.
- Tel Vinrae has Flaws and Traits that can be allotted for Characters. Please see rules for Traits and Flaws.
- We understand that building a character can be difficult, especially when requiring backgrounds prior to sanction. All Characters receive a Seven-Day Grace Period. Any changes that need to be made to the character's sheet or background may be done so during this time. When determining the one-week margin, the DM Team goes by the Date of Sanction listed within the DM Notes of a character sheet. Apart from the granted Grace Period, players needing changes otherwise will have to gain special approval through the DM Team.
- When creating a character, please do not recreate characters that you or others have played on another chat. (This often violates Copyright policies on other chats).
- Every player character must be aged to Adulthood as per their racial requirements. There are no exceptions to this rule.
- Additionally to Age, all characters require the following to be noted when sanctioned or background/build submission: Origin, Residence, Allegiance, and Deity.
- At Level 1, a character starts with Max HP. At level up, players can choose to either roll their HP (must be witnessed by a DM), or take 1/2 HP. Every other level after 1st, a characters gains +1 Bonus HP as detailed in the Player's Handbook (only when taking 1/2 HP).
- Though Jobs are not required in the setting, Profession, Craft, Aristocrat Levels, and Perform checks may be used to supplement income. These can be rolled monthly, or be processed at the time of a character's level-up to backdate all and any pay prior to the increase of level. (This still functions as pay/week, even done monthly or at Level-Up).
If you do not have access to the D&D Sourcebooks, the following links may be found useful. Direct links to feats and classes might also be referenced throughout the forums to ensure there is no discrepancy in interpretation.
The Hypertext d20 SRD: has lots of content to help with a various array of character creation standards from the base rule books. Typically this site is referenced when determining specific rulings.
D&D Tools: Also offers a wide variety of material from the D&D Books. When creating characters from our approved materials, this site might be helpful as the DM Team uses this site as a central reference point.
