To take a contract, simply evaluate the boards and find a contract which you are able to sign up for. It is recommended that all members who will sign for a contract are listed by the signing party at the time of signing to reserve the contract spaces for their fellow members.
Contracts have minimum ranking requirements based on their difficulty. Policy is that two members of a single rank are able to sign in place of the rank above them, and members of a higher rank are able to fill any lower slot.
At the time of signing, half of the requirement fee of the contract slot the Sigil is filling is given to the signing member: 12.5 GP for Blek, 25 for Skilti, 50 for Innsigli and so on.
Signing a contract means you agree to fulfill the contract in the amount of time listed on the contract negotiation. A person can only be named on a single contract at a time generally, though contracts that take place out of town in the same general location can be signed on to by the same group in some circumstances, provided no other interested parties have come forward.
The minimum requirements MUST be met on a contract before it can be fulfilled. Failure to fulfill the minimum requirements of a contract means that you forfeit both your remaining half of your requirement fee in addition to any other requirement fees that have not been filled. This is to discourage higher ranking members from taking less challenging contracts away from lower ranking members.
Upon completion of the contract, the remaining portion of your requirement fee is given to you.
Additional Members beyond the minimum: It is not uncommon for a group that stretches beyond the minimum requirements to take on a single mission. Unless negotiated otherwise within the group taking on the contract, the requirement is that the lowest requirement slot be divided between all additional members of the group. This insures the higher ranked members are paid their fullest fee first, before any division from the fees is made.
Meeting the minimum requirements without using all the requirement fees: In the event that the minimum requirements are met without using all of the fees, the remaining fees are split evenly amongst all signing parties.
Loot: All loot that is acquired on a contract: whether a spoil of battle or a discovered artifact, must be catalogued and reported to the Sigils. The company charges 20% fee from all loot that is acquired, and the remaining amount is split amidst the group as follows unless otherwise negotiated by the group, in minimum values: Hönd receive 15%, Innsigli receive 10%, Skilti are given 7% and Blek are given 5%. All remaining loot is split evenly amidst the group. This is, again, only a practice used if a group of signing Sigil's do not create a different negotiation amidst themselves (often, most groups are content to say that loot is divided evenly).
It is required that the group always pay 20% of their loot to the Sigil's. This means that if a single item is all the loot acquired, and that item is valued at 1000 GP, at least 200 GP must be given to the Company. Parties are, of course, allowed to "buy out" the companies part of the loot. In the event that an item is desired by the group, but the value cannot be immediately "bought out", the company retains the item in a secure vault until the group is able to pay the value owed to the company appropriately. Often times, groups will simply take on a new contract immediately, using the requirement fees they acquire from the new contract to help buy out the item they wish to retain.
Contesting for a contract: It is not uncommon for a lucrative (or potentially lucrative) contract to be sought after by multiple members of the Sigil's. In these events, it is practiced that two forms of negotiation are used:
1) The Einvígi: A contest is agreed upon by two or more members of the two groups interested, and monitored by a member of a rank no lower than Innsigli - the contest may be martial, mental, magical, or any combination thereof. Terms are agreed upon before the contest begins and any members found cheating forfeit their right to the contract immediately (and may suffer additional penalties as well).
2) Cooperation: It is also accepted that the two groups work together on the contract. Members negotiate splitting of the requirement fees appropriately, as well as the loot, then simply travel together and work together for the common goal. This is the preferred method of handling the matters, though not the most often chosen.
