Being the main drag from the Dockyards into the heart of Tel Vinrae, Canal Street is a highly trafficked area for adventurers and locals alike. The street runs along the wide canal which stretches further into the city. Bridges offer passage from one side of the canal to the other, and gondolas owned by the locals are docked along the waterway so they can traverse the narrow alleys when they flood out during the stormy seasons and tides. There are no entrances to the buildings on the ground level of this sector - instead, all buildings have stairs or ladders leading up to their doors or porches.
However, because Canal Street is on Sea level, this section of the city is divided. The first level is at ground level and made of limestone. During low tides, these limestone streets are covered with blanket vendors that attempt to pawn their wares to the passerby.
The second level is a story higher. To the Outlander, the stilted wooden slabs are porches with rope and wooden ladders that are lowered down onto the limestone pathways and seem considerably nonsensical. Those familiar with Tel Vinrae know these are docks for when the canals are flooded during high tides and storms, so that the establishments can remain open and operating during these times without hindrance.
