Found on a table at the Fiery Lion was this slip of parchment - penned neatly in a scrawl - front to back. It was ... a story? It was left unsigned.
It was here on this very night that the man came - the Collector of Secrets and the Bringer of Dreams in this place so big, The City of Secrets. The City of Lies. A story, he asked for. And a story is what the men gave.
Now, what you must understand, Dear Reader, is that this group of men were no normal group of men. Diverse and yet stoic in their own ways, there was nothing ordinary about them. An Immigrant, a Fairfolken Gent, a Boy Lord, and a More-Than Dwarf of these hues did breed a cluster thought to be less than imaginable. The Collector of Secrets called upon them to rescue our fair damsel from dangers unknown within the deepest of places. But the story, Dear Reader, is not of rescuing the fair damsel - but of how these so very different people came together.
It was dark and dank and place that only the bold or brazen went with guile in their hearts and poison on their lips - or so one would think. And it was here that our group of men journeyed to save their fair damsel. They found her in a realm of shadows, basked in a dress of blood. They found in the Midnight, and they found her to be a mirthful and self-righteous woman that did not deserve to be saved. Yet, a promise is thus - and so the group, who had sworn to the Collector of Secrets to keep her safe, did just that.
They bickered, and lo - how they fought! The Immigrant wanted justice, the Boy Lord wanted Peace, the Fairfolken Gent wished for Knowledge, and the More-Than-Dwarf sought acceptance. And they bickered and they fought until they came to the gates of their journey and found the Beast Man. And together they fought together, against the Beast Man - this extraordinary men.
Alas, the most extraordinary part was not their victory, nor their strength - nor their ending, for our story ends the way all stories do. They saved their damsel, and fulfilled their promise to the Collector of Secrets.
No, what was so extraordinary was that despite their differences - their riches or fame or talents, strangeness, abilities or lack-their-of.... they were the same within their hearts. They were Men.
