The Charred Sigil's welcome all people into their numbers: their bulk of their recruits come from would-be adventurers looking to make a name for themselves, or members of the Martial Academy looking for something to test their acquired and learned skills upon.
There is no racial restriction within the Charred Sigils and no requirement for a particular walk of life. The Charred Sigil's tend to follow the Laws of whatever land they are in, but their banner being carried is generally enough to help members resist the worst of the prejudice between races. There is an unspoken policy in the Charred Sigil's that makes it very clear: members of the Sigil should be neutral on the war. While there are no written penalties for being caught as a spy trying to use the Sigil's name to get access to important locations for one army or the other, it is believed that if you are caught, and manage to elude the forces of the enemy army, you are not likely to be part of the Sigil's much longer.
To sign up for being in the Sigil and receive the rank of "Blek", a person need merely head to the House of the Bannerman - the original building in which the Sigil's were formed which now acts as an office and reception area for new recruits, interested contractors and general bookkeeping. Pen your name into the log of the House of the Bannerman and you can receive your armband denoting your rank and begin taking contracts immediately. Only members of the Sigil's are allowed to take contracts, and only members of the Sigil's are allowed to accompany contracted parties and share in their spoils.
