All material in Sandstorm is allowed except for the following*:
*Some material, while allowed for use, have been modified by house rulings.
Races:
No new races from Sandstorm will be used in play.
Character Classes:
(Some alternative class features offer free feats; be advised that some feats are not allowed for play on TV. See Feats below for further details.)
- Wasteland Druid NOT allowed
- Paladin may have a war camel but NOT a diprotodon.
Banned Feats:
- Blazing Berserker
- Blessed by Tem Et Nu
- Sand Snare
- Touchstone
Modified/Clarified Feats:
- Light of Aurifar is "Light of Malazel" or "Light of Rael", depending on their faith. (Player must cite the source: Sandstorm, pg. 51)
- Judged of Aurifar is "Judged of Malazel" or "Judged of Rael", depending on their faith. (Player must cite the source: Sandstorm, pg. 50)
- Priest of the Waste: Spells expended for the feat's benefits must be Divine and of an equivalent-or-lower spell level. I.E a sorceror with 1 level in cleric cannot expend 5th arcane slots to benefit from the spells granted by this feat. The original text accidentally allowed this loophole.
- Scorpion's Sense: Tremorsense radius is reduced to 5 ft from 10 ft. The PC gains a +2 bonus to Perception that applies at all times.
New Deities in Sandstorm:
No new deities or pantheons in Sandstorm are used on the setting. Some PRCs associated with those deities are tailored to suit the pantheons of Tel Vinrae.
Banned Prestige Classes:
- Ashworm Dragoon
- Sandshaper
- Lord of the Tides
- Walker in the Wastes
Modified Prestige Classes:
Important House Rule: When taking a PRC that progresses spellcasting by +1 level, the same house rules that limited the base classes (if any) also apply.
Scion of Tem-Et-Nu:
Is now Scion of Mazalel or Rael. The PRC can be adapted to any god or goddess with intimate connection to rivers and waterways, including lakes. This PRC does not apply to deities of seas and oceans.
Modifications:
1. The River's Life is Mine: Only applies when submerged (to at least one's waist) and/or immediately adjacent to the inland body of water--literally, in the shallows of a riverbank, or knee-deep on a lakeshore, etc.
2. The Divine Power ability is modified. Time spent submerged in a river or lake now counts towards the duration of the spell effect, but its duration is tripled. Furthermore, a Scion may choose to suppress or activate this effect as a free-action if the other essential conditions are met, so that daily uses are not squandered.
Scorpion Heritor:
Envenom Blade: Poison loses all potency if it is not used within a three-hour period. This is to prevent stockpiling of poison, especially for sale.
Equipment, Magical Items & Armour and Shield Abilities:
Scorpion-tail Whip (small) should be 1d3; the medium version should be 1d4.
It is not sold with scorpion venom nor does it produce any kind of poison. The stored poison is released on a threatened critical.
Special: This weapon is restricted by the government of Tel Vinrae. It is almost contraband due to the close assocations with poison. Its sale requires the payment of a stifling tax, and the presentation of a permit to any inquiring officer of the law. That said, it is quickly acquired on the black market. And forged arms permits are so easy to come by, only rarely do officers question the possession of a scorpion-tail whip.
Banned Equipment and Gear:
- Shapesand
- Slumber Sand
Modified Gear:
Costs of the following items are modified, owing to the specialized skill required in producing them, and the sheer peril that the Burning Wastes pose which limits their export.
- Deep Draught: 30 gp
- Ironthorn Extract (flask): 75 gp
- Oleum: 90 gp
Banned Magic Items:
- Lash of the Sands
- Sandform Ring
- Blazing Sand Ring
- Ashworm Pellet
- Bottle of Endless Sand
- Burnoose of Moonless Nights
- Gloves of Sand Shaping
- Thirsty Sand
- Waterskin of Deluge
Clarifications on Magical Properties:
Sandstriding Ring: Allowed, but the feats granted by this ring cannot be used to qualify for associated feats or as prerequisites for Prestige Classes.
Scorpion Carapace: Same stipulations for Sandstriding Ring also apply.
Special Materials:
Kheferu is in the setting--harvested (or hidden) primarily by the Ajit and other denizens of the Burning Wastes--but a PC looking to purchase a Kheferu weapon must undergo a special scene. The knowledge of manipulating Kheferu is not available to PCs.
Banned Mounts:
- Ashworm
- Dust Twister
- Diprotodon (An alternative Paladin option)
Clarification on Drift Magic:
The entry in Sandstorm is not worded as closely as it should be. On Tel Vinrae, the clause "using Drift Magic" is interpreted to mean "activating Drift Magic". "Activation" of Drift Magic is then followed by the actual casting of the spell, which (normally) consumes a standard action. This is why "activating" Drift Magic is a free action when in "natural areas of sand, dust, or ash"--the spell is attuned and enhanced by such places--while greater effort (a move action) is needed when outside of them. Players considering a magic user with access to Drift Magic should be made firmly aware that Tel Vinrae is not a natural area of sand, dust, or ash.
Spells introduced in Sandstorm with close associations to the wastes, desert, sand, or desert soil are considered Drift Magic, and can be learnt only if the player has taken the feat: Drift Magic.
Banned Spells:
- Mummify
- Mantle of the Fiery Spirit
- Storm Mote
- Awaken Sand
- Sandform
- Desert Binding
- ALL Epic Spells
Special Note for SUMMON DESERT ALLY:
The following cannot be summoned by players:
- 2nd: Formian Worker
- 3rd: Ashworm
- 4th: Deinonychus, Protoceratops
- 5th: Formian Warrior
- 6th: Diprotodon, Megaraptor
- 7th: Formian Taskmaster
- 8th: Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus
Banned Domains:
- Repose
- Sand
